Carly Owens (b. 1995) is a contemporary hand embroidery artist and designer. She received her BAD in Art + Design (Fibers & Surface Design concentration) with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship from North Carolina State University in 2017. She previously studied Jacobean crewelwork and goldwork embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework in the United Kingdom.
In her work, Carly explores hand embroidery and other fiber arts techniques to create inventive surfaces and dreamlike interpretations of objects, both contemporary and historical. Carly uses her work to create outlets of escapism and inject the everyday with a sense of magic and beauty. Her pieces are made to be whimsical while also honoring the tradition and craft of couture making. You can see more of her artwork on her website.
